Location
The County of Isle of Wight is strategically located between Hampton Roads and Richmond in southeastern Virginia. Approximately two million people live within an hour's drive. Isle of Wight falls within the Tidewater Physiographic province on mostly flat land. Elevations range from twenty to eighty feet above sea level. This central location on the mid-Atlantic coast places us within a day's driving time of more than half the population of the United States. Isle of Wight offers the best of both worlds. There are stretches of rural landscape and small town living in close proximity to the thriving urban environment of nearby metropolitan areas such as Virginia Beach, Norfolk, Portsmouth, Newport News and Hampton. Within our 319 square mile county, we have approximately 23 miles of shoreline on the James River.
